Streets of VR — Building the Streets of Miami Series

Development on the Streets of series is officially moving into full production.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve started merging years of systems, ideas, and mechanics from previous projects into a single world — and that world is Streets of Miami.

This is the start of something much bigger.

What Is Streets of Miami?

Streets of Miami is a semi–open world VR sandbox built around freedom, experimentation, and street-level gameplay.

Right now, the best way to describe it is:

Garry’s Mod meets Vice City — in VR.

Players can explore, fight, interact, mess around, and create their own moments inside a living city. It’s not about forcing a single playstyle — it’s about giving players systems that react.

Reusing Proven Syste

ms (The Smart Way)

Instead of starting from scratch, I’ve been pulling in and evolving systems from past projects:

  • Combat & AI foundations from Invictus: Men of Iron
  • Environmental interaction & pacing from Haunt n Seek: Silent Siren
  • Sandbox logic adapted specifically for urban gameplay

These systems are now working together inside a shared world — giving Streets of Miami a solid backbone from day one.

Combat & Gunplay

Combat is a major focus right now.

I’m actively polishing:

  • Muzzle flashes
  • Weapon feedback
  • Hit reactions
  • Close-quarters fighting mechanics

The goal isn’t arcade chaos or hyper-simulation — it’s weight and responsiveness. Every punch, shot, and movement needs to feel grounded in VR.

When you fire a weapon, it shouldn’t just look good — it should feel right in your hands.

A Living Sandbox World

The city is being built piece by piece, system by system.

Current and upcoming features include:

  • Shops & interiors
  • Food systems (eat to restore health)
  • Gun shops for weapons and gear
  • Clothing stores to change outfits and identity
  • Interactive props and street objects

This isn’t just set dressing. These systems are meant to support emergent gameplay — letting players decide how they move through the world.

Semi Open-World Design

The world is intentionally semi open.

That means:

  • Large explorable spaces
  • Clear districts and zones
  • Controlled performance for standalone VR

Everything is stylized and readable — not ultra-HD, not noisy — keeping performance tight while maintaining atmosphere.

Development Transparency

I’m building this project out in the open.

You can follow development, systems progress, experiments, and live testing here:

  • Instagram: @streetsofVR
  • Twitch: twitch.tv/MDRNx

I’ll be sharing:

  • Gameplay clips
  • Dev experiments
  • World building updates
  • Live development sessions

If you’re into sandbox VR, open-ended worlds, or just watching games come together in real time — this is for you.

What Comes Next

Short-term focus:

  • Polish combat and weapon feel
  • Finalize core shop systems
  • Improve NPC behavior and reactions

Long-term vision:

  • Expanding districts
  • Deeper systems
  • Strong identity between Streets of Miami and Streets of New York

This series is about street-level stories, freedom, and controlled chaos.

Finally...

Streets of Miami is still raw — but it’s already fun.

That’s the most important part.

The foundation is there. Now it’s about refinement, iteration, and pushing VR sandbox gameplay further than I’ve taken it before.

More soon.
